Six Questions with Liam Ashley

It was late at night after a long day of Gears of War 2 Horde mode at the 2008 E for All show in Los Angeles. That was the first day that we’d begun handing out the massive metal COG tags to help promote the Gears of War “Last Day” marketing campaign. The website was up, and a few people had already put in their secret COG tag codes to unlock some cool Gears downloadables and story elements. And then there was this guy on the Epic Games forums who was digging through the site’s code and had managed to unlock nearly every single unlockable on the site without a single COG tag in hand. In just hours he had discovered it all, and he was kind enough to keep his methods mostly to himself and not ruin the experience for everone else. Hooligunn was his forum name, but I came to later know him as Liam Ashley. He was a prominent member of the Epic boards, and eventually he founded the Gears Community Organized Nights, or GCON. Today, he’s answering six questions.

Six Questions with Sara Nicholson

The first time I really interacted directly with Sara Nicholson, I was sending her an apology over IM. Long story short, I’d accidentally included a private email address on a CC line instead of a BCC when I sent out an email blast. At the time, she was working at GamerScore Blog, and had no reason to give this little ol’ noob Community Manager the time of day. She was exceptionally cool about it, though, and I’ve been a big fan of hers ever since. Currently she’s an admin over at PopChix!, and today, she’s answering six questions.

Six Questions with Chris Brown

Chris Brown loves games. Chris Brown loves his wife, Kelly. Kelly Brown loves games. A match made in heaven? It would certainly seem so, and their mutual love for videogames has launched this couple into the broader gaming community with their site The Married Gamers. The site is exactly what it sounds like – a place where a married couple talks about games, both in their blog and in a regular podcast. And if anyone’s keeping their trivia cards up to date, Chris and I are also from the same town, a fact I didn’t know abuot until long after first working with him.  Today, he’s answering six questions.

Six Questions with Steve Artlip

I’ve only worked with Steve Artlip on a few occasions, but his name comes up in every gaming community conversation I have. He’s hosted his own podcasts, launched a successful community of other people’s videogame podcasts, and spoken on community panels at gaming conventions like the Penny Arcade Expo.  Today, he’s answering six questions.

Six Questions with Danny Pena

I first met Danny Pena, better known in the gaming community as “Godfree”, almost four years ago. As I was working on building up my community leader rolodex, Danny was recommended to me by fellow EALA Community Manager Aaron Kaufman (@EA_APoc). Back then, Danny was really just getting started with his Hip-Hop/Gaming-fusion podcast, Gamertag Radio, but he already stood out as one of the most interesting characters on the Xbox360 community. Over the last four years, he and his dedicated staff have built the site into one of the most recognized videogame news sources around. Today, he’s answering six questions.
