Great podcast as usual. I have an interesting hurdle. First, while we’ve been around for 6 years, we don’t get invited to events very often. One of the things we see alot is that we don’t get invited to game events where they believe only guys want to play the game (ie UFC, or some new shooter). Any advice on how we can overcome these hurdles and get the staff invited to more events?
    Thank you!

    Trina –

I think this is sort of a reverse of the “niche value” thing we talked about in the podcast. Your site is very targeted by default, and you are already well aware of the bias the gaming industry tends to have when it comes to “girl gamers.” I bet you have no problem getting invited to Littlest Pet Shop events, right? Anyway, as I mentioned in the podcast, sometimes it helps to let people know that you’re available for these type of events for these type of games. Perhaps it’s time for Gaming Angeles to do a little PR campaign of their own with CM’s and PR Managers in the industry. Have you thought about sending a mailing around extolling the virtues of your network, and specifically underlining that you guys DO cover more things like UFC, Gears of War, etc? It might be good to put together a media kit of the kind of coverage you can provide a game like this.

Marketing and PR folks always have a target audience they go after wtih any marketing, including community events. Very seldom for games like you mention does the target or even a broadening audience include “female gamers” specifically. You’re going to have to show these folks that you can help them reach their target audience, or how you can help broaden their audience (and hope that’s part of their goal).
